One of the main attractions of the DJI Matrice 100 is its adaptability and flexibility. Although it can fly for up to 20 minutes with a standard battery underneath, adding a second one in this extra compartment on top of the quadcopter can give it a theoretical maximum flight time of 40 minutes.
The compartment can take either the 4500 mAh TB47D or the 5700 mAh TB48D. Thanks to adjustable mounting holes on the module, the battery compartment can be moved around to adjust the multi-rotor's centre of gravity, which will be affected by the payload that it's carrying. That's vitally important for a platform which will be used for research and development work. With two intelligent batteries on board you will still receive important information about overall battery life, health and status and how much time you need to allow to get your Matrice back to its take-off point.
