Whether you're an amateur filmmaker, aspiring vlogger or an up and coming YouTuber, DJI's latest smartphone three-axis gimbal is just the thing you need to help bring out your inner Spielberg. It's called the Osmo mobile 2 and like the original it lets you shoot silky smooth, professional-looking footage from your smartphone, but this time in a smaller, lighter, easier-to-use design.
The controls have been simplified to give you quick and easy access to many of the Osmo's features with just your thumb. For instance, there's a power button that doubles up as the mode-switching button, a thumb pad to pan the camera, and a dedicated record button that saves you from having to tap your phone's screen every time you want to shoot a clip. The same applies to the zoom, which can be operated just by using the zoom slider on the side of the gimbal. Above the controls, there are four LED power indicators to show the remaining battery level at a glance. Fortunately, the built-in battery gives you up to 15 hours of use which can even be used to charge your phone while filming, so you can spend time getting that perfect shot and not have to worry about your phone dying.
The Osmo works with the DJI Go app after pairing with your phone over a Bluetooth connection. Once paired, you'll be able to access many of the apps great features including ActiveTrack, which allows you to create perfectly framed shots of moving subjects with a simple tap of the screen. Just highlight an area on your phone screen and the Osmo will automatically track it, even while the camera is moving. The app also comes with a handful of great Timelapse tools and shooting modes to help you get your creative juices flowing, including:
